Capturing the Chart at the Moment the Signal Fires

A screenshot does one job: it freezes the state of the screen at a moment that will not exist again. Every teardown orb trading signals mlstpodcast has logged of a disputed entry comes back to that, because the chart at 9:47 and the chart at 16:10 are different documents. Bars get revised, indicators redraw, the axis rescales to a session that kept moving, and the opening range that looked decisive during the first fifteen minutes reads as ordinary once the whole trading day is on the screen. Reviewing an intraday decision without a capture reviews a chart nobody traded.

The Capture Has to Happen at the Trigger

Ten seconds later is usually fine. Ten minutes later is already a different picture, because the 5 minute bar that mattered has completed and the next two have printed. The habit worth building is a single key press before the order goes in, not after the position is settled, and it takes less time than checking the size field.

What Has to Be in the Frame

The price axis with real numbers on it, the time axis, the symbol, and the clock. A cropped chart of an anonymous candlestick pattern is worth nothing three weeks later. Including the order ticket or the depth window in the same capture also records what was actually available at that price, which is the detail that settles most arguments about whether a fill was realistic.

Capture the Refusals Too

The setups that fired and were skipped are the harder half of any review and the one with no other record. A capture at the moment of the decision, with a single line about why it was passed, converts a vague memory into something checkable after the closing bell. Over a quarter those files answer whether the filters are removing bad trades or good ones.

Name the Files So They Are Findable

Date, symbol and time in the filename is enough, and it has to be automatic or it will not survive a busy week. A folder of thousands of untitled images is the same as no record. The point is to be able to pull up every session where a particular condition was present without opening anything.

What the Captures Are Actually For

They are the only defence against rewriting your own history. Memory of a session reliably reshapes itself around the outcome, so a losing trade gets remembered as obviously marginal and a winner as obviously clean. A file with a timestamp does not cooperate with that, and reviewing a month of intraday triggers against their captures rather than against recollection is the difference between a review and a story.
